The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Pharmacy Team are honoured to be announced as a finalist in the 2024 Australian Private Hospitals Association (APHA) Awards for Excellence in the categories of Consumer Partnership and Engagement, and Clinical Excellence.

These awards recognise excellence in healthcare innovations that make a significant contribution to patient care.

Here’s a glimpse into what we have submitted:

For Clinical Excellence:

Opioid Stewardship Program – A state’s first collaborative model of care for sustainable and appropriate opioid use

In 2019, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse launched the Opioid Stewardship Program to mitigate opioid risks post-surgery, aiming to enhance patient outcomes, minimise analgesic harm, and ensure cost-effective opioid use. Through a patient-focused approach, this model actively involved patients in the prescribing process, improved surgical and pain team communications, and tackled systemic challenges to transform and reshape the landscape of opioid use. This program led to a marked decrease in unnecessary opioid prescriptions, fewer opioid-related complications and empowered patients to manage their pain under the guidance of a multidisciplinary team.

For Consumer Partnership and Engagement:

Our Pharmacy Patient Education and Compliance Committee is dedicated to providing person-centred care. Through collaboration with our Partnership Advisory Council, we drive positive change tailored to meet the unique needs of our community.

Together, we’re making a difference one patient at a time!
