Your Benefits

Psychological Support

Though it is an incredibly rewarding profession, we know that there are challenges associated with working in cancer care. Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is proud to be the first hospital in Australia to introduce Schwartz Rounds for staff, a support and wellness program that provides employees with a safe space to talk openly. The Schwartz Rounds are a significant support for attendees to address the challenges and feelings that can arise from working in oncology. During the confidential, hour-long group discussions, hierarchies fade away and all participants have the opportunity to speak and be vulnerable in a compassionate space. They have been proven to increase insight into the social and emotional aspects of patient care and improve teamwork and interdisciplinary communication.

We also highly encourage all employees to access our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselling service. EAP is a high-quality, short-term, professional counselling service that allows employees to deal confidentially with personal or professional issues ranging from trauma and depression to relationship issues or work/life balance.

Financial Support

We support our staff with competitive salaries, a generous annual leave scheme, paid parental leave, a retirement pension fund and the opportunity to salary package through SmartSalary. Salary packaging helps to lower your taxable income and increases your take-home pay, with increased benefits for full-time employees such as vehicle leasing and the potential to package essential expenses such as education and development courses, superannuation and relocation expenses among many others. Casual and part-time staff are also eligible for selected benefits.

We offer many scholarships that allow employees to further their education and professional development while working, thanks to the generous philanthropic donations of our staff and donor communities.

Wellness

Physical, psychological and financial wellness is crucial to maintaining a healthy work/life balance, which is why Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is committed to improving and maintaining staff wellness in and outside of work. Whether you’re involved in clinical care, research or work in a corporate role, all employees are encouraged to use all staff wellness benefits that will help them stay well and provide uncompromising patient care every day. By putting you first, we are ensuring you put that value back into the patients you treat, and that you love coming to work every day.

We offer Fitness Passport memberships:
Fitness Passport is a discounted workplace health and fitness program available to both you and your family. For a fraction of the cost of a regular gym membership, it provides unlimited access to a wide range of gyms, pools, and fitness centres.

Free onsite parking available is also available for staff working evening, nights and weekend shifts.

Opportunity

Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is located in the heart of the Camperdown-Ultimo health and education precinct, steps away from the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney. Proximity to extensive research facilities and technologies allows our staff to easily collaborate and share information and ideas, fostering a thriving ecosystem of innovation.

We have exceptional professional development programs including partnerships with local universities and fantastic e-learning programs.

We recognise the potential of professional development to help our staff deliver the best outcomes possible for our patients.
