Research Institute
Welcome to the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Research Institute
Since opening as a not-for-profit comprehensive cancer centre in 2013, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse has developed a diverse research program across all cancer types. Our research spans translational research, clinical trials, clinical outcomes, and health services research. The establishment of the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Research Institute in 2025 underscores our commitment to advancing clinical practice and care through patient-centred research.
Our impact extends beyond institutional boundaries, driving innovation through collaborations with local and international partners. Patients are at the heart of everything we do. By engaging with consumers, we ensure our research tackles the issues most relevant to our patients, paving the way for meaningful translation of findings into clinical practice.
The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Research Institute represents the next phase in our mission to improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.

We’re searching for ground-breaking discoveries. To do that, we need three key pillars.

Clinical Trials
We’re one of the largest cancer clinical trials centres in Australia, giving more patients access to latest treatments.
Researchers
Our clinicians, researchers and scientists are one in the same, meaning patient care is underpinned by discovery.
Collaboration
Game-changing research needs a generous philanthropic community and global collaborative network.
