The Oncology Pharmacist and Technician training program is designed for clinical pharmacists and technicians who are new to cancer care and will be responsible for verifying, supplying, and educating patients about cancer treatments.

2-Day Face-to-Face Program: Pharmacists and Technicians
An introduction to oncology pharmacy combining classroom learning with practical exposure to pharmacy operations, day therapy roles, and departmental interactions. Includes a tour of Day Therapy, wards, and the aseptic suite at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. This is a two-day face-to-face program for both Pharmacists and Technicians.
Morning tea and lunch provided for the 2 face-to-face days.
Agenda for both pharmacists and technicians:
- Day therapy workflow and team roles
- Clean room theory and tour of aseptic suite
- Take-home medications and patient education
- Nursing perspective in day therapy units
- Shadowing of oncology pharmacists/technicians
Sessions specific to pharmacists:
- Clinical verification of treatment orders
- Monitoring anti-cancer therapies
- Shadowing day therapy pharmacists
Sessions specific to technicians:
- Basic oncology theory
- PBS dispensing and role of ward technician
Program Details
Cost: $1200/participant (minimum 5 participants)
Face-to-Face Learning: Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th May 2025
Pre-work: 8.5 hours
4-Day Program: Pharmacists only
A comprehensive 4-day program combining the 2-day face-to-face experience with 2 days of virtual workshops. Includes theory and case studies on major cancer types such as Breast, Colorectal, Melanoma, Lymphoma, and more.
Morning tea and lunch provided for the 2 face-to-face days.
Outcome:
- Participants will be signed off as competent to clinically verify adult systemic anti-cancer therapy orders.
